Redesignated 149th Fighter Squadron, and allotted to VA ANG, on 24 May 1946. 149th Fighter Squadron extended federal recognition on 21 Jun 1947. Redesignated: 149th Fighter Bomber Squadron in Dec 1951; 149th Bomb Squadron (Light) on 1 Dec 1952; 149th Fighter Interceptor Squadron on 15 Jun 1957; 149th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron on 10 Apr 1958; 149th Fighter Interceptor Squadron on 14 Jun 1958; 149th Tactical Fighter Squadron on 10 Nov 1958; 149th Fighter Squadron on 15 Mar 1992-.

Operations. Combat in ETO, 9 Sep 1943-25 Apr 1945. Called to active duty as part of the Korean War call-up, 1951-1952. Trained for bomb missions, 1952-1958. Air defence of South-East US, 1958-1962. Fighter bomber mission, 1971-1981, included several deployments to Red Flag and a deployment to RAF Lakenheath, England, in 1976. Close-air support mission, 1981-1992 which included deployments, to Ecuador, Norway, and Panama. Deployed to Howard AFB, near Panama City, on Jan. 20, 1990 for Operation Just Cause. Participated in a four-state Air National Guard F-16 "rainbow" detachment deployed to Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, to support Operation Provide Comfort II. Participated in Operation Northern Watch, patrolling the no-fly zone over northern Iraq, 1993, 1994 and1996; Operation Southern Watch, 2000; Operations Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom, 2001-2002; Operation Iraqi Freedom, 2003. Shares in the support of mission requirements for the F-22A Raptor with 1st Fighter Wing.
